DIABETES MENGANCAM PENGGEMAR MINUMAN SODA


Kompas.com - Bila Anda termasuk peminum setia minuman bersoda, mulailah membatasi minuman ini. Minum satu kaleng atau lebih minuman bersoda setiap hari beresiko menderita diabetes di kemudian hari.

Minuman bersoda memiliki kandungan gula yang tinggi. Beberapa penelitian kedokteran juga mengaitkan minuman ini dengan obesitas, kerusakan gigi, serta disfungsi ereksi.

Menurut para peneliti dari Eropa, minum satu kaleng soda setiap hari akan meningkatkan risiko diabetes melitus lima kali lipat dibandingkan dengan orang yang minum satu kaleng dalam sebulan.

Penelitian yang dimuat dalam jurnal Diabetologia ini dilakukan di Inggris, Jerman, Denmark, Italia, Spanyol, Swedia, Perancis dan Belanda.

Sebanyak 350.000 orang diwawancara mengenai pola makan mereka. Wawancara ini adalah bagian dari studi Eropa berskala besar untuk mengetahui kaitan kanker dengan pola makan.

"Konsumsi minuman dengan gula tinggi seperti soda meningkatkan risiko diabetes. Makin banyak yang diminum perhari, makin tinggi risikonya," kata ketua peneliti Dora ROmaguera dari Imperial College London.

Meski demikian ternyata konsumsi jus buah tidak terkait dengan insiden diabetes.

Menanggapi penelitian ini Dr.Matthew Hobbs, kepala riset Diabetes UK, mengatakan peningkatan risiko tersebut bukan hanya disebabkan karena ekstra kalori.

"Konsumsi makanan dan minuman manis memang sebaiknya dibatasi karena tinggi kalori dan bisa menyebabkan kegemukan," kata Hobbs.

Ia menambahkan, menjaga berat badan tetap ideal adalah hal yang paling penting untuk mencegah diabetes.

Pakar lain juga menyebutkan bahwa minuman manis hanyalah salah satu faktor yang bisa memicu diabetes. Masih banyak faktor lain yang berperan.

Tetapi, karena minuman dan makanan manis bisa dihindari dengan mudah, maka tak ada salahnya mulai membatasi konsumsinya.
